Here are the roots of this blog rant: when I was a kid, the Vietnam war was raging and so were protests by the \u201ccounter culture.\u201d One of the right wing\u2019s favorite slogans was \u201cAmerica – love it or leave it!\u201d Things didn\u2019t change much – about 35 years later the bookstores I frequented were displaying a new book with the headline \u201cWhy the Left Hates America\u201d (by someone named Daniel Flynn.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But that\u2019s just plain wrong. If you love your home but the roof leaks, you don\u2019t leave it, you fix it. If you love your kid but they have a disability, you don\u2019t disown them, you do everything you can to help them overcome it. If you love something or someone, you do everything you can to help it or them become even better. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s what Jefferson, Washington, Lincoln, Roosevelt did, as well as Frederick Douglas, Susan B. Anthony, Martin Luther King,..<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Conservatives dislike change – that\u2019s a dictionary definition. But the USA was intentionally created to be able to change, with frequent elections and the ability to amend and modify the constitution. So isn\u2019t it really the conservatives who hate the core idea of the United States of America? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
